Carnival Sounds
Notting Hill Carnival is the second largest street festival in the world, with millions of people flocking to West London every year. For the third year running, Spotify partnered with event organisers and Stink Studios to create a virtual experience for the weekend that celebrates the culture and heritage of Carnival, and the stories of the people and artists behind it.
This year’s experience continues to celebrate everything fans love about Carnival and features brand-new content encompassing written, audio, and musical content from influential Black creators. Fans will once again get the chance to virtually explore the official Notting Hill Carnival sound systems, featuring DJs playing a mixture of dub, reggae, soca, soulful house, and everything in between.
Our design inspiration is taken from the spirit and heritage of Carnival. We included elements such as visual noise and loud type to bring a sense of party to the site, and applied a wide range of vibrant Carnival colours against a Spotify black canvas.
To highlight the cultural importance of Carnival, the microsite also hosts podcast episodes covering everything from Notting Hill Carnival’s rich history to current issues facing the Black community.
In collaboration with paq studio, we designed and built a one-of-a-kind digital moment that captures the essence of what makes Notting Hill Carnival so special, to so many people.
